The health section of Council helps to ensure that residents and visitors to the Kiama Local Governement Area can enjoy a healthy and safe environment. This is achieved by promoting safe practices and ensuring compliance with the relevant health standards and legislation through regular inspection programs. A range of information is available to help you stay healthy and assist businesses to consistently meet and maintain high standards of compliance.

As stated, Council conducts regular inspections of businesses to protect public health and safety. To enable this, the following businesses must be registered with Council:

NSW Health

NSW Health is responsible for ensuring that the people of NSW are provided with the best possible health care. The Department monitors the performance of the NSW public health system and supports the statutory role of the NSW Minister for Health.

South Eastern Sydney/Illawarra Area Health Service

SESIAHS, also known as the Area, covers approximately 6,331 square kilometres, stretching from Sydney Harbour in the north to Durras in the south. The Area includes highly urbanised areas of eastern Sydney, southern Sydney, Wollongong and Port Kembla, which contrast with the predominately rural areas of Kiama and Shoalhaven.

Cancer Council NSW

The Cancer Council was established in 1955 by an Act of the NSW Parliament. The Act empowered The Cancer Council to raise money from the public in order to meet its objectives.

The Heart Foundation

The Heart Foundation is an independent Australia-wide, non-profit health organisation, funded almost entirely by donations from Australians. The Heart Foundation's purpose is to improve the heart health of Australians and to reduce disability and death from heart, stroke and blood vessel disease.

All food premises or temporary events selling food must notify their details to NSW Health by visiting the website.

Safe Food

The Safe Food Production NSW, SafeFood is the first step towards a single agency responsible for food safety in NSW. Safefood is responsible to the Minister for Agriculture with coverage extending from production, harvest or catch to the back door of retail. It also covers retail businesses where raw meat is further processed, such as butcher shops and supermarket meat departments.
